Just Allowing Myself Be

Julia Turner is a contemporary abstract artist based in New York City, whose work explores the dynamic interplay between nature and architecture.

From an early age, Julia was captivated by the organic forms found in nature and the structural elegance of buildings. This dual fascination continues to shape her artistic practice, where she finds beauty not only in the vitality of both elements but also in their inevitable decay—wilting flowers, weathered facades, and the passage of time itself.

Julia enjoys traveling, constantly seeking inspiration in diverse landscapes, whether wandering through bustling urban cities, the serene English countryside, or the otherworldly terrain of Iceland.

Her work is not just a reflection of the forms she encounters but also an expression of the emotions they evoke. She strives to depict what she cannot fully articulate in words, using her art to capture the fleeting sensations and unspoken connections she feels with the botanical and structural worlds around her.

Before fully dedicating herself to art, Julia spent nearly a decade as an interior designer, working in and beyond NYC. Immersed in a world of design and aesthetics, she was constantly surrounded by art in various forms, which ultimately rekindled her passion for creating. Today, she works in mixed media, blending acrylic paint, oil sticks, watercolor, graphite, and collage to build layered, textural compositions that evoke both structure and impermanence.

Through her work, Julia invites viewers to reflect on the harmony between growth and deterioration, order and organic chaos. Her pieces are a testament to the ever-changing nature of beauty and the stories embedded in both the natural and built environment.
